Determining the Severity of Open and Closed Cracks Using the Strain Energy Loss and the Hill-Climbing Method

Evaluating the integrity of structures is an important issue in engineering applications. The use vibration-based techniques has become a common approach to assessing cracks, which are most frequently occurring damage structures. When involving inverse method, it necessary know influence position and geometry crack on modal parameter changes. crack, both size shape, defines severity (DS). In this study, we present method (DS-SHC) used for estimating DS closed open transverse cracks beam-like using intact damaged beam deflections under its weight Stochastic Hill Climbing (SHC) algorithm. After describing procedure applying DS-SHC, calculate prismatic cantilever severities different types depths. results tested by comparing obtained with DS-SHC those acquired from dynamic tests made professional simulation software. We good fit between determined these two ways. Subsequently, performed laboratory experiments found that can accurately predict frequency changes due crack. Hence, valuable tool detection.
